Sensory integration approach in paediatrics

The thesis describes the approach of sensory integration of Jean Ayres, summarizes a basic neuroanatomy knowledge related to this approach and deals with sensory processing disorder, their diagnosis and therapy. There is a case study in the thesis containing an examination, assessment and the suggestion of therapy according to the approach of sensory integration theory. The sensory processing disorders are functional disorders of perception, filtering and organizing of stimulus coming from sensory systems. On this basis the sensory modulation processing and sensory discrimination disorder in different sensory system occur or sensory - based motor disorder can occur too. Sensory processing disorders may occur simultaneously with another diagnosis, for example the Down syndrom, syndrom ADHD. We create diagnosis from history, clinical observation and tests and from standardized tests. The therapy uses a number of different tools and special equipped rooms to provide adequate sensory stimulation, especially for vestibular, touch and proprioception. The approach of sensory integration is a part of integrated look at an individual and his problems and it is a part of the whole rehabilitation too.
Influence of acrobatic sports on dynamic postural stability

Author: Anna Šalbabová Title: Influence of acrobatic sports on dynamic postrual stability Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate an influence of acrobatic sports on dynamic postural stability with greater focus on vestibular system and reaction time of the subjects and to compare those qualities with non-acrobatic subjects who have no history of acrobatic training. Methods: Assessments were performed on NeuroCom Smart Equi Test device, which is located in laboratory of kinesiology at the UK FTVS. There were 20 subjects divided into 2 groups 10 subject each. One group made of 10 acrobatic athletes, the second group of 10 non- acrobatic subjects with no history of acrobatic training. The age of all subjects ranges from 20 to 34 years. For the testing of dynamic postural stability were used Sensory Organization Test (SOT), Motor Control Test (MCT), Head Shake - Sensory Organization Test (HS-SOT). For assessment of vestibulo-ocular reflex was used Dynamic Visual Acuity Test (DVAT), which cannot be performed without Perception Time Test (PPT). Results: The results have shown significantly better reaction times of acrobatic group in MCT and better results of acrobatic group in Head Shake - SOT in half of the performed tests. Title: Use of virtual reality to evaluate the dynamic postural stability in beachvoleyball players Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate if the dynamic postural stability of trained beachvoleyball players is affected by training. Also I tried to evaluate, if the final score of equilibrium will be higher, than in regular population. For testing was also used virtual reality to stimulate vestibular apparatus. Virtual reality was used as a disturbing element. NeuroCom Smart Equi Test was used as an evaluation factor of dynamic postural stbility. Methods: The research involved a total of 20 females - 10 beachvoleyball players and 10 healthy persons performing activities of daily living. We investigated dynamic postural stability on device called NeuroCom Smart Equi Test. For evaluation of dynamic postural stability was used Head Shake Test - Sensory Organisation Test. This test was taken twice, second time after intervetion by virtual reality. Data were analyzed by statistical t-test method. Evaluation of postural stability among deaf adults

vi Abstract Title: Evaluation of postural stability among deaf adults Objectives: The purpose of this diploma thesis was to compare the postural stability between the deaf and the normal hearing adults, and to find out if the statistically significant difference in measured parameters does exist. Methods: 102 subjects at the age of 20-45 years participated in this study. The experimental group consisted of 35 deaf adult subjects with congenital or early childhood deafness. The control group has been made by 67 normal hearing adult subjects. The postural stability was objectively evaluated by Footscan, the pressure measuring plate. Nine tests were passed, duration of each test was 30 seconds. The total travelled way (TTW) expressing the total path the centre of acting pressure travelled during the test and the Romberg ratio, which is the ratio of TTW values under the condition of closed and open eyes, were selected as indicators of postural stability. T-test was used to assess the statistical significance of the differences between the group of deaf adults and normal hearing group.
